the kinda updated video game post (black label)

The nice thing about having a Japanese Xbox 360 is being able to play demos of games before the demos come out in the United States. Of course, it is helpful to remember such features, otherwise I could have been playing the Bayonetta demo a lot earlier.

Anyway, I like Bayonetta although when there is a lot of action on the screen (with the enemies and your special attacks), it's hard to track where you are and what you are doing sometimes (maybe it's something I need to get used to). An interesting game, I'll wait for the US version to pick it up. On a side note, I was mostly clothed when I was playing the game. Thought I would throw that in there.

The New Xbox Experience came out 11/19/08. In ten days it will be a year since I haven't created an avatar. Yes, I still think the whole thing is stupid.

I don't think I'll be picking up Assassin's Creed II right away. I didn't pick up the first one until it ended up being $20.00. I'll pick up the second one eventually, probably when it drops to the $39.99 or lower price point.

That's it for now.

highly relevant to my interests

I have a lot in common with Japanese men apparently. A goo Research monitor poll conducted in July of 2009 shows that the number one secret favorite fetish among Japanese males with a score of 100 is ZETTAI RYOUIKI.

Nice to know I am not alone. I don't keep it secret though.

Japanator has coverage of this as well.

Some of the other fetishes have me scratching my head.

The butt thing I can understand, but blood vessels visible through white skin? Really, Japan?

mystery format

So, I was told that I would be editing the Mystery Anime Theater yesterday. I get the movie file, and it's in a .mkv file format.

I had to look up the file format in Wikipedia because I had never heard of it.

Look, I don't mind editing things but do me a favor and encode the file in something that 99% of the world uses and not a file format that no one has ever heard of.

.avi, .mov, or .mpeg for example.

Now I am looking for a way to convert the file into something like an .avi or .mpeg because Final Cut doesn't recognize the file format. I am thinking it may just be easier to re-capture the movie in a normal file format.

Look, I know it is the nature of the beast but goddammit it shouldn't be this annoying.

gundamu ikimasu II

There is a Flash-based Gundam fighting game here.

CONTROLS (for those who don't know Moonspeak): A is your regular attack, S and D are your super moves, and F is a special move that you can use once your bar is filled up enough. Pressing down on the arrow keys activates your shield, while left, right, and up move you in those directions. There's an arcade mode to play through which will unlock more characters.

weaksauce

The pepper sauces that my mom and I have been using to spice up various dishes have not been as hot as we remember. For example, we've been using a sauce made from Scotch Bonnet peppers for years, but lately it seems pretty weak. Like Tabasco weak. When I am feeling up to it, I'll look for something that's *actually* spicy (although not so so spicy that all you taste is heat and no flavor).

an update of sorts [digital session remix]

It's really been quiet on my end. Nothing much to report. Life is okay, and I manage 90% of the time. Other than some minor work that needed to be done to my car (I will save you from the oh so not interesting story of serpentine belt replacement), nothing much is going on over in Murdock-World. A few minor things though:

I received some points at work (for employee of the month type stuff) and I used some of the points for a $100.00 Best Buy gift card. I ended up getting a one year subscription (it's actually one year plus a month) to Xbox Live Gold. Now I can play online with assholes whenever I feel like it for a whole thirteen months!

Actually I don't play the types of games that these particular people play, so I am hoping that I run into a more civilized group of people (unlikely, though as I've got fighting games I can play online).

Also video game related, I'm having a tough time reaching the high score achievements for Deathsmiles and Raiden Fighters Jet. I get *close*, but can't seal the deal. Maybe a joystick may help with this (recommendations are welcome). I also hope Mushihimesamafutari and Ketsui come out soon.

I am still seeing a personal trainer. Things are going well with that, I am able to bench press more than I used to and I am pleased to see my strength increasing. She has me doing strength training and pilates.

I am close to paying off my credit card. If everything works out how I want it to, I should see my credit balance reach zero in less than three months. I have to take into account money for general expenses and NDK of course.

I figured out that video capture is one of those things that you get what you pay for. So, the next video capture device I have in my sights is the Canopus 77010150100 ADVC110 Converter. I definitely want to get more into video production, and it's a matter of getting the right tools for the job. I am saving up for this.

Oh, and Prairie Dogs.

I think that's it for right now.

the news so far: e3 edition

Until I have something more substantial (keep in mind this will probably go over stuff that caught my eye - your mileage may vary)...

Square Enix is jumping the gun a little on this one. XIII is not even out yet. It's online as well, because that worked so well with XI. Must be nice to have to form a party of twenty people to kill a level 1 creature.

Metroid: Other M. Developed by Team Ninja. Video here. Screenshots here. I do like the Metroids.

Treasure loves you.

Fallout 3 meets.. Deliverance?

Assassins Creed II. Now with swimming!

Kojima does Castlevania. Well I've always wanted to play a Castlevania with FIFTEEN HOURS OF CUTSCENES.

That's it so far.

hey look another video game post [maximum risky version]

Here's another one of these things because I got nothin' else to talk about right now.

So, Saturday I will be getting in my Japanese Xbox 360 with the GOTHIC LOLITA SHOOTER DEATHSMILES. Needless to say, this is highly relevant to my interests.

Valkyria Chronicles is a HARD game. I really like the graphics and how the game plays, but the difficulty curve ramps up quickly. For high rankings, go for speed and nothing else. Alicia Melchiott is also highly relevant to my interests.

I've never played any of the Raiden Fighters, so Raiden Fighters Aces is all new to me. I do like the Fighters series and Jet more than I like the Raiden series. The game is kicking my ass though, the standard Xbox 360 D-Pad is a piece of shit, so I think I will use my MadCatz Fight Pad for this game.

I've never been real proficient when it comes to Joysticks, so I have always used Joypads. Not sure why that is. The best Joystick I ever used is the NES Advantage. Maybe I should look into something more current.

So, I finally got into the world of American Role-Playing games with FALLOUT 3.

The game does not suck (I actually didn't give the game a look until I started hearing from pretty much everyone on how awesome the game was) and it is not as BROWN as I thought it was going to be. I am near the end game and I am tying up some loose ends (read: completing other side-quests).

For those keeping track, the last American RPG I played was Dungeon Master on the Amiga 500.

End of Line.

can't let go

Don't mind the bad grammar and sentence fragments.

Here's the deal.

I can't make myself relax, go with the flow, and all that. I have to know what's going on, I need to have things planned out, I can't let myself go (if that makes any sense).

You see, I am a fairly organized person, and I need some semblance of order in my life. I thrive on routine and I really hate surprises. Generally I don't like things that throw me away from my standard routine.

I work very hard to not put myself in situations where I don't have any control. I'm not sure if it is some weird innate survival instinct or what. This is why I don't drink a lot of booze (that and alcohol makes me sleepy).

Needless to say, it is difficult for me to be spontaneous.

I also try not to put myself in situations where I can be easily embarrassed or outside my personal comfort level.

Yes, I know that makes me very, very, very times infinity lame.

The thing is that it is very difficult for me to break out of this (the argument could be made that I choose not to break out of this). I would like to "let loose" and relax enough to actually enjoy myself, but I feel like I have to be on "guard" all the time.

Anyway, now you know. And knowing is.. well, you know the rest.

the bane of electronic peripherals [2nd approach]

I mentioned before that printers have always given me a case of the ass. Well, recently my problems have been with video capture devices. I've had two video capture devices fail spectacularly within a year. I bought a new one for my MacBook Pro so I am hoping this one doesn't fail.

It's not looking good so far. It only saves things in .mp4 format and dumps everything into iTunes. That means I have to fish out the video files and hope Final Cut Express doesn’t have too many issues with the files once I try and edit it.

Wish me luck.

Behind the cut are all the show graphics for the podcast. I started the graphics with show 039, however I went ahead and retrofitted old shows with graphics as well. Please note that behind the cut will be 60+ graphics. Enjoy!

random thoughts [speedcore remix]

01. I was told I lack WHIMSY (this was a comment made to me after the whole Xbox360 Avatar Crisis). I'm still mulling over this one. No, I still don't have an avatar.

02. I want to plan a SHMUPMEET. Not sure where to have it - or when.

03. My friend Travis told me he is close to start work on a film. I have been wanting to do some filming. Like for a long time, and hopefully it is finally coming all together.

04. I don't like what I do at work. I can't see myself doing this for a long period of time.

05. I need to get out more.

06. Still on the fence on Fallout 3.

07. Dealing with some personal-ish issues. Nothing Earth-shattering, though.

08. Been seeing a personal trainer for the past three weeks. I'll let you all know how that goes.

I think that's all I got so far.
